It's very rare, but if an early Sweep forces a pet swap on your side, I recommend a Restart.

Level Pet will get all XP cause both carry pets die.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Same here, my lvl pet was lvl 12 & only got 208xp. It's a good strat, just not for power lvling.

Yeah, the Zandalar/Nazjatar/Kul Tiras areas are very greedy with the XP for pet battles, i keep forgetting it and it's always such a let down after the fight's over.

I didn't have a sweep in the beginning, but my MPD did die on the very turn he was supposed to explode (but before he could, obviously). Luckily my leveling pet was 24 and a quick smack finished things off.

Ingolf

wrote on 2021-03-08 16:21:48

My Iron Starlette did not oneshot Dead Deckhand Leonard with the Windup+Supercharge combo, so it messed up the script. It might be because my breed is H/H, but it says any breed on the guide so that might need to be updated

Still works in 9.0

FaithBinder wrote on 2020-11-06 17:09:39

Doesn't work, your Iron Starlette and Mechanical Dragonling will die and your level pet will need to finish off the tentacle

Enderes#1241

wrote on 2020-11-06 18:32:35

I managed to do it without using my backup pet, so it may be RNG dependant.

(OP) Lazey

wrote on 2020-11-07 15:10:55

"doesn't work" is not very helpful, did you eventually experience the situation mentioned in my Creator's Info? Tested it and still works.

Pla2pus#1287

wrote on 2018-12-30 17:33:48

If I may suggest one change, Supercharge isn't needed against Corrupted Slime.

Because magic pets can't be dealt more than 35% of their maximum health in a single hit, the Supercharge is wasted.

If you go strait into another Wind-Up without waiting for Supercharge to come off cooldown it will make the fight slightly faster and less close at the end. I tested this and was able to kill Corrupted Slime with my Iron Starlette.

Great strat btw =)

hayleyh wrote on 2019-02-11 04:11:55

Yes, this is good advice - basically fight finished a turn earlier!

Andiell

wrote on 2020-10-06 21:16:10

Came here to add exactly this. Skip the second Supercharge to land a second Wind-Up before the Starlette dies.

Strawbear

wrote on 2020-03-15 11:17:50

Plus, what is Prio (i.e. Prio 1, Prio 2)?

(OP) Lazey

wrote on 2020-03-15 15:09:23

Sometimes you simply use pet abilities when they are off cooldown, that's when I rather use a priority lists than writing down repeating steps.

Taking the last 3 lines of this strategy means for every round you check these 3 lines for matching conditions or ability cooldown.

Priority 1: Enemy pet has 560HP or less? No? Go ahead to Prio 2... Yes? Explode!
Priority 2: Thunderbolt has cooldown? Yes? Go to Prio 3... No? Use Thunderbolt and on the next round start checking conditions for Prio 1 again
Priority 3: If you get here by not matching conditions for Prio1 or 2 simply use Breath this round as filler since it has no cooldown, for the next round start checking Prio conditions

Even if Shroud is listing it as steps https://www.wow-petguide.com/index.php?Strategy=7678 is a good example for a priority list that otherwise would generate a wall of text.

Prio 1: Blistering Cold
Prio 2: Iron Bark

Use Blistering Cold whenever it's off cooldown (incl. round 1), all other rounds use Iron Bark.

Strawbear

wrote on 2020-03-15 11:12:19

Excuse my ignorance, but I keep seeing HH this a SS that etc. Can someone please tell me the meaning of those? Isn't an Iron Starlette an Iron Starlette? I mean, I don't get it!

(OP) Lazey

wrote on 2020-03-15 14:49:22

Most battle pets in World of Warcraft come with variations in their 3 stats (H)itpoints, (S)peed and (P)ower. We call that Breed and there are formulas to define exactly how the stats are weighted.

Addons/Websites use these formulas to show you a Breed ID (letters or icons) no matter what level your pet has so you can easily see if a pet is worth leveling/upgrading or you better find another version of that pet.

H/H means that you have this specific pet with the highest possible hitpoints, S/S are the fastest and P/P the most powerful ones. B is for balanced stats so B/B has all stats handled equally. P/B would be a balanced pet with slightly higher power. That doesn't mean that every H/H pet will have the same hitpoints at level 25, this is different for most pets.

When we talk about breed restrictions in the strategies and you'll see S/S this usually means, that the fastest version of a specific pet is recommended or mandatory to attack first. If we set specific values like >1500HP it means a pet with less HP eventually dies too fast and the strategy probably won't work. (edited)

Is the rematch string broken? For some reason I cannot import it. It only shows the comment but not the whole strat. All the others on the site import fine. include steps slider is on. (edited)

Slayman#2794

wrote on 2019-08-05 12:53:29

The strat works, but the leveling does not. The trainer gives literally less than 200 XP.

Shaei

wrote on 2019-10-10 23:21:29

My guess is that, like other starts for BfA fights, this was written before the EXP nerf.

Edit: I just use a third back-up pet (that I never end up needing) instead. :P (edited)

Laccy wrote on 2019-05-16 04:17:00

This strat NEVER works for me. By step 4 Leonard hasn't even resurrected yet and I'm forced to submit.

Geki wrote on 2019-05-16 19:25:57

Not sure what you're talking about. The Supercharge-buffed Wind-Up one shots Leonard, but he's an undead so he comes back to life immune one round. You use that round to get another Wind-Up prepared before he dies for good.

Incendio#11336

wrote on 2019-05-26 10:29:13

My HH starlette just falls short of one shotting Leonard, but a powerball next round kills him and can pick back up right afterwards with the strat.
Edit: i mean HH doesn't get him into his undead round, left with 103 health.

Bishop#2102

wrote on 2019-10-03 06:15:08

What's the point in leveling HH starlette? It is a glass cannon in all strategies I know.

Alayea

wrote on 2019-09-13 13:39:04

Clocked this strategy at 2min 5sec, perhaps faster if you don't bother with the suiciding. (edited)

Mordred#1140

wrote on 2019-02-27 07:24:12

This is an absolutely terrible strat. Why is it even up here? There is no need for Iron Starlette to use Supercharge against Corrupted Slime. Corrupted Slime is a Magical pet; it cannot take damage above 35%. Wind-Up x 2 will reach this limit. Supercharge will not increase the damage.

Also, Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling, despite his advantages over Magical pets, is useless against the Tentacle. The Tentacle gives out massive damage, even against MPD, and is faster. Should not be used in this fight.

Geki wrote on 2019-03-12 18:59:26

The point of the MPD is its dragon-type attack to get the final pet low enough to finish off with explode, allowing your low level pet to soak the xp, quicker than other pets with explode could.

Melandroso

wrote on 2019-01-25 02:56:28

May I suggest a rework as there is no level exp worth mentioning, so the explode strategy is unnecessary. Mech dragon can finish it up with Breath, no problem, but the strategy as described is a little more complicated than needed now.

Devious05 wrote on 2019-01-25 17:06:40

It was written before the exp was nerfed

mokurai wrote on 2019-01-16 20:26:34

Ruta

wrote on 2019-01-11 09:14:47

This is a good strat, but to Pla2pus#1287's proposed changes I would add: the Mech Pandaren Dragon is faster than the slime, so if it's going to take two attacks to kill the slime I'd go Thunderbolt and Breath. I'd also sacrifice Explode for Decoy since the XP nerf.

thebl4ckd0g wrote on 2018-12-15 20:59:37

They nerfed the xp on these fights for 8.1; I think it's because you can redo the fights over and over (for the family meta achievement) and I don't think they wanted people easily farming pet xp endlessly.

This pair of lines sets up the leveling pet to try use an attack, rather than swapping out. Poor Chi-Chi.

Yeah, a leveling pet should typically be in slot 3 on a suicide leveling strategy. I apologise for not making that clear.

The team of my own design that I'd been using had been hit or miss, and it required a L23 or L24 carry pet. This one, on the other hand, worked like a charm. It gained my L4 carry pet six levels. Thanks for the post, Lazey & Xu-Fu!

S/S Dust Bunny 2/2/2 (or any critter with dodge + stampede and speed > 330)
Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling 1/2/1 + any level 1+ pet

Dodge -> Stampede -> Flurry -> Dodge -> Stampede -> if u are still alive use Flurry

Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling:

vs 2nd enemy pet-> Thunderbolt -> Breath untill enemy pet dies.
vs 3rd enemy pet-> Breath until enemy pet has 560 hp or less -> Explode

You should submit this as a separate strategy! :D

Unless I'm missing something, I don't see where the leveling pet comes in!

Epox wrote on 2018-09-20 19:38:48

When you use explode, the leveling pet will get the exp, since they will be the only pet left alive

Everth wrote on 2018-09-19 15:41:51

Iron starlette H/P 1 1 1 - level pet - spawn of onyxya P/S or P/B (guessing) 1 2 *

same as guide but pet takes full exp with dragon dying last turn and last tentacle dying from schorched earth!

'Prio' is short for 'priority', meaning use the listed abilities in the stated order of importance.

Worked like a charm, had exactly the breed needed for this too. 2k experience to my level up pet without safari hat on (D'oh)

Evitel wrote on 2018-09-09 11:45:25

It worked, but it's a very frustrating strategy. Trying to figure out when to safely introduce my leveling pet was annoying.

Whakko wrote on 2018-09-09 14:01:07

If you explode your MPD your leveling pet will be the only one left and gets the XP. No need to switch to it during battle.

Evitel wrote on 2018-09-09 14:50:08

Thanks, didn't realize that.

In spite of the strategy claiming that any breed of Iron Starlette works, this consistently failed if I used an H/H starlette and consistently succeeded if I used a P/P one. You need enough damage in one windup-supercharge-windeup sequence to kill Deckhand immediately, and H/H doesn't do it

Dpaul wrote on 2018-08-21 17:59:41

Lost first try, going with the 2nd alternative

Tez wrote on 2018-08-20 20:13:50

After failing to live long enough to explode, tried to tinker with the strategy a bit.
Little point doing supercharge against magic type - it won't increase wind-up damage much (if at all), still gonna be 1/3 health. I went with couple simple 2x windups and then a couple powerballs with my P/P starlette and there was still a few HP left by the time second enemy died (also absorbed first hit of the last opponent).
Also replaced explode with decoy, used it right after dead starlette -> level -> dragonling swap. Attacks might be at random, but it covered for the hardest hits. It worked same turn dragonling triggered failsafe, so there was likely an extra turn of space in case something goes wrong.
Still pretty tight with leveling pet, should probably look for a better match vs magic ones.

Worked like a charm :)

Seems like its "cutting it close", so critical hits will probably be very bad news.
