Substitutes:

Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Whatever pet you have in the third slot should only need to be there to soak backline damage, so make sure it's one you won't be using later on.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

This is my first tdBattlePetScript - I have tested and this worked perfectly 3 times in a row, killing Prototype Annoy-O-Tron on the 14th round:

ability(Ice Tomb) [ round~1,7,11 ]
standby [ round~2,6,8,12 ]
ability(Call Blizzard) [ round~3,9 ]
ability(Ice Lance)
change(Father Winter's Helper)
ability(Ice Lance)
if [ self(#2).dead ]
change(#3)
ability(#1)
ability(#2)
ability(#3)
endif

The third pet is not needed. EDIT: I changed the OP's strategy slightly, instead casting Ice Tomb on round 11. This causes Ice Tomb to drop on Round 13, dealing 333 dmg when he resurrects. Ice Lance then finishes him off easily on Round 14.

Nice! Thanks for joining the script writing community! :)

Not having tested the script, but just general feedback:

- try not making scripts specific to a language by using IDs (which are automatically inserted I you use the ingame editor with tab completion btw) instead of ability or pet names
- try not making scripts specific to one set of pet: xufu automatically suggests alternatives, so people may not use the exact pets in the strategy. prefer changing to a slot instead of a pet
- instead of hardcoding rounds, try encoding the semantics of why a move is done: you are trying to counter specific enemy spells or refresh weather, so the condition may be `[ enemy.ability(xxx).usable |` or `[ !weather(xxx) ]` or `[ self.aura(xxx).duration < 2 ]`. This might seem irrelevant when transcribing a strategy with specific rounds, but can help a lot when pets die early/late due to breeds and thus putting the schedule slightly off, but the script still reacts properly.
- you seem to have `ice lance > swap helper > ice lance` which makes no sense without conditions. this should probably only be `ice lance > swap helper`
- unless that pet swap is required at a specific round rather than when dead (which is unlikely since all abilities are listed before), you can just put `change(next) [ self.dead ]` on top to swap to the next pet when one dies
- the abilities for the filler pet do not need to be conditional: it doesn't meet anything above anyway.

change(next) [ self.dead ]
standby [ round~2,6,8,12 ]
ability(IceTombID) [ round~1,7,11 ]
ability(CallBlizzardID) [ round~3,9 ]
ability(IceLanceID)
ability(#1)
ability(#2)
ability(#3)

does the condition-folding and internationalization (assuming you insert the IDs). I am not ingame and don't have the pets so can't test what the semantic conditions are, so I left those as an exercise to the reader ;)

Sorry for misleading you there, that’s not a readymade script, the “IceLanceID” parts have to be replaced with the actual IDs. I was mostly trying to give feedback to Blocky.

He means like this

ability(624) [ round~1,7,11 ]
standby [ round~2,6,8,12 ]
ability(206) [ round~3,9 ]
ability(413)
change(#2)
ability(413)

endif

@fr0z3night: I like how you inserted the conditional again ;) But yes, this with the IDs replaced the above is

change(next) [ self.dead ]
standby [ round~2,6,8,12 ]
ability(624) [ round~1,7,11 ]
ability(206) [ round~3,9 ]
ability(413)

Ah yeah, first ever script so I assumed spell names would be fine, but appreciate that they're different across language IDs. Since then I've wrote many more scripts and use the IDs as per above. Glad the script was of use and thanks for the advice, sorry for late reply! Cheers

As of 9.1, and I'm not sure if this is new or I'm just having really bad luck with this one, but I can't get it to work anymore, where I didnt have a problem in 9.0.5. As best I can tell, he uses resilience to bust out of stun early (maybe?) throwing everything off kilter. Not sure if its working like previous patch. I finally gave up by skipping a couple ice lances and making up for it with a strong 3rd pet.

It's likely a result of the bug that causes issues with passes, pet swaps, stuns, and so on. It is definitely something that needs to be hotfixed by Blizzard, and we've informed strategy creators to not change their strategies in response to this bug. Apologies for the trouble!

I've seen this strat fail occasionally but never worried about it. It's the first fight. Reset and try again and it usually works. I've been trying to figure out why it fails and when it does, the only thing I can see is Rotten dies on turn 7 without firing the Ice Tomb so you lose that damage. The fight is close enough for that to make a difference and Father usually dies as well, forcing the random pet in.

I'm going to try using Winter's Little Helper with a similar skill set as my third pet and see how that goes.

Round 11: Ice Tomb / PAOT casts Annoying Shield. FWH takes no damage

Round 12: Pass / PAOT casts Sonic Detonator, 272 damage to FWH (554 hp)
-- 44 damage (weak) to elemental pet (1349 hp)

Round 13: Call Blizzard / PAOT casts Sonic Blast. 638 damage (critical) FWH dies, Call Blizzard doesn't land. Ice Tomb kills PAOT. Fight won.

Even taking two critical hits from its hardest hitting ability, I still won the fight.

So, again, for anyone saying this is failing, logs showing this need to be posted. This is the second time a log for the fight has been put in the comments showing it works just fine, and even faster since 8.3.

Gráinne posted a full log of the battle below. Without actually seeing what's going on in your fights, or being told, I can't 'fix' anything. It never fails for me, and I've tested over and over. Unless someone can post their log so I can see where things go awry, the strat will remain as posted.

You can create your own log to demonstrate what happened in your battle with the addon Pet Battle Log Keeper, which you can get on CurseForge. That's what I used in my comment below.

Actually formatting that for text is tricky unless you're comfortable finding and editing plain text files, but you could also take a couple of screenshots and put them up on Imgur.com

Having spent far too much time trying to find alleged errors in the strat already, I look forward to evidence that there is a condition Dragons and I have both overlooked.

Personally, I think people who report failures are losing track of the count of Ice Lances, and/or missing the Pass.

Failed 3 out of 3 times. He always has a life left when it gets to the 3rd pet. Perhaps a specific 3rd pet would help, but this strategy is a fail when you can't lose even one battle in a dungeon.

0-4 on attempts. I finally gave up and replaced Turn 8 with Call Blizzard instead of Pass, then used Call Blizzard and Ice Tomb on cooldown. I used Thundertail Flapper as my third pet and managed to down the bot with all elemental abilities.

*shrugs* I don't know how many times this will come up, but every time I run the dungeon it works just fine. The only thing I can think of is non-rare pets being used, otherwise, I'm not sure what else is going on, since no one has said where in the strat is failing.

I just tried it, out of curiosity, and recorded it in Pet Battle Log Keeper, in case anyone comes up with a failure and wants to compare.

My RLH took one crit. I think if I had taken two crits, it would have spoiled the strat, but that should be very rare, like 1 in 400.

Everything worked fine, as expected.

I absolutely do see how, if you skip one of those Pass rounds, it could all go very wrong. The strat depends on the Ice Tombs connecting, and the stuns that follow. If you end up casting those on the wrong turns, you would have a very bad day.

So you do need to follow this strat accurately.

If you do record a battle, I will happily take the time to compare and see where the difference is, but for now I've got to suspect a skipped Pass turn.

"no one has said where in the strat is failing"

The pets die before Annoy-O-Tron does if you follow the steps exactly with full rare pets. There's nothing confusing about it.

What rounds are the first / second pets dying at? It makes a big difference depending on when it's happening.

You didn't give me any details on where it's failing and expect me to just...know? All you did was copy+paste my strat into your comment and say; "It didn't work. This is what I changed, and the third pet I brought in." That give me no information on where it 'fails'.

The overwhelming majority has zero issue with it, so unless you give me more information, I can't help.

"The pets die before Annoy-O-Tron does if you follow the steps exactly with full rare pets."

I have just posted my log of the battle (in two parts because the comment was too long in one part). That demonstrates that the pets DO NOT die before Annoy-O-Tron does if you follow the steps exactly with full rare pets.

Of course, with any battle, there is a chance that RNG can derail almost any strat. However, if there is such a case here, I don't see it as obvious, or possibly common, from the log.

IF it failed for you when you did the steps correctly, refusing even to say where the failure happened gives us no believe you.

ability(624) [ round~1,7,12 ]
ability(206) [ round~3,9 ]
ability(413)

This has failed for me 3 out of 3 times. After Pet #1 dies, the script it never activated Call Blizzard or Ice Tomb again, and activated Pass on the wrong rounds so that Lance (the only ability the script still used) kept getting blocked.

Thank you for your feedback! I took Freaky's concept for the script and tweaked it a bit. I just ran the one I made, twice, and it seems to be working. If you'd like, let me know how it works for you. :)

I'm really confused by all these weird scripts. They all look slightly 'hooky' to me.
Anyway, here's mine:

ability(Ice Tomb:624) [ enemy.aura(Annoying Shield:2226).exists ]
standby [ enemy.aura(Annoying Shield:2226).exists ]
ability(Ice Tomb:624) [ !enemy.aura(Ice Tomb:623).exists & !enemy.aura(Stunned:927).exists ]
ability(Call Blizzard:206)
ability(#1)
change(#2)

Lilianne wrote on 2018-12-17 03:48:55

A transmutant is very handy as the first pet. Use Life Exchange when you are around 500 xp.

Lilianne wrote on 2019-03-06 06:57:06

This has still never failed for me and RNG has no ill-effect. (2 passes, 2 transmutes, and 1 Life exchange).
Switch to second pet, Tinytron, with Lightning and Fire shields to cast while Annoy is blocked.
Third pet mops up.

TD Script

ability(Ice Tomb:624) [ ! enemy.aura(Ice Tomb:623).exists & ! enemy.aura(Stunned:927).exists & enemy.aura(Resilient:924).duration < 2 ]
standby [ enemy.aura(Annoying Shield:2226).exists ]
ability(Call Blizzard:206)
standby [ enemy.ability(Annoying Shield:2225).usable ]
ability(#1)
change(next)

Ice Tomb needs to hit the round after Resilient fades or it won't stun and your Helpers die early. You also don't want your second helper to cast Ice Tomb because it will reset the aura's round counter.

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2019-01-10 06:51:21

Turn 4 for Father Winter's Helper needs to be Ice Tomb, but the script runs it as a pass. Using Ice Tomb on Turn 4 doesn't reset anything, because that's the round Resilient drops to 1, and Ice Tomb is at 2 Rounds. I've run it once using my turns as indicated above, and it went off without a hitch. Using your script, the Winter's Helper dies before it can kill the Annoy-O-Tron

MolsonofAle wrote on 2019-01-01 00:19:19

Don't know if something has changed with this or not but this failed really bad twice. His shield was active to block too many attacks. Ended up finally completing it with Transmutant with life exchange as Lilianne mentioned, an Aldrusian Sproutling 2,1,2 and Azeriti 1,2,2,.

I doubt anything has changed, since I used this strat this week to complete Gnomer myself. Perhaps you missed a turn somewhere? That's why the passes are listed where they are, I would wager. (I don't have every fight's moves memorized exactly)

Lolfix wrote on 2019-01-03 17:29:50

The strategy was edited it seems since first release, which i think caused confusion in week2 for people, but if you follow the steps it works. The passes are there for when Divine Shield is up or 1st pet dies anyway (a pass has faster animation than attack so to speak).

Really the fight just comes down to using Ice Tomb as first priority, during first round of Divine Shield so you dont waste a turn and it can land safely. Call Blizzard over Ice Lance. Pass during 2nd turn of Divine Shield. In with 2nd pet when first one dies. Thats it. Without RNG crit against yourself, 2nd pet should survive with 1 round to spare in terms of life.

Geki wrote on 2019-01-04 20:53:19

I tried it a couple times. Robot always survived with 19 health, which wastes the last listed ice tomb, and he kills me a round before I can down him.

you can also use 3 inland croakers as well if you haven't bothered to level your helpers. They catch at like level 23 so easy to get them a couple levels. they have the same 3 moves you use for this strat. :)

I don't (yet) have Rotten Little Helper or Winter's Helper; could a variant of this with Mr. Bigglesworth work, do you think?

(OP) DragonsAfterDark

wrote on 2018-12-13 22:20:00

I can't go in to check, but if Mr. Bigglesworth is faster than the enemy, it might work with Ice Tomb > Frost Nova > Pounce + and cycle through everything on CD. The mech pets take extra damage from elemental attacks, so that's really what you're looking for here. :)

Nivmizzet wrote on 2018-12-15 21:29:54

Yes, Mr. Bigglesworth is a fine substitute here. An even more common pet you can use is Inland Croaker, found all around Tiragarde Sound.

Nivmizzet wrote on 2018-12-14 13:18:57

For anyone looking to see if it is worth it to bring a level pet on Prototype Annoy-O-Tron my level 23 carry pet received 246 experience with a Safari Hat and no other buffs. The backline creatures take a lot of incidental damage in this fight.
