Substitutes:

1
Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

1 / 2

Allows to use any pet for leveling. P/S breed on the Iron Starlette is the only one that will make this possible. If you run one of the other breeds expect the level pet to take 176 damage (266 as a dragon).

Big thanks to Nyari for helping me out with this strategy :)

Also please check if you have the newest script before complaining about your old one not working. Both the strategy as well as the script are made specifically for the P/S breed.

High XP
Breed
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
Level 1+
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.
In Dragonflight Patch 10.2, the ability Time Bomb has been changed. This tag is marking strategies using Time Bomb so they can be reviewed.

Great strat but script would get stuck if Iron Starlette dies with 4 flames of the puppies left.

Why would your Starlette die? Read the Breed....

I don't know what's going wrong, but far too often the first enemy pet uses an ability that damages my entire party 2 rounds in a row and kills my leveling pet and kicks me out of the fight. I don't recommend this strat for lvl 1 pets.

zanzolo

wrote on 2020-06-16 22:19:08

I had this prob at first, you can't use any breed of Iron Starlette. I had a PP and it did not work. I bought and leveled a PS and it works perfectly every time so far (about 20 times). None of these scripts are dealing with the pet swaps correctly for me. At that point in the fight I turn off the auto-pilot ;)

JestersTear

wrote on 2020-06-17 12:46:54

Yeah, the strat loads my PS Starlette, at least it says it is.

voodoomon

wrote on 2020-06-16 12:57:28

Top Notch...Work's great for me. lvl 1 pet takes 88 hp damage on one round from Foof . about 50% of my lvl 1's pet's life . Than its off to killing the rest of her team. Ty for the Script & Rotation.

Sorido wrote on 2019-07-11 11:55:02

Nice strat but not for leveling 1 pet.... At least 5 lvl+ :)

(OP) Shenk

wrote on 2020-01-27 11:05:38

the strat is only for P/S starlettes, so is the script. (edited)

Lasmirra wrote on 2020-03-30 17:24:03

This strat worked with a PB Iron Starlette 5/5 times.

Rainbowphish wrote on 2019-07-11 18:04:38

So what script is the "right" one? the one I have been using sometimes does not bring my leveling pet in but I can't tell what it the "original" script out of the ones that are posted.

(OP) Shenk

wrote on 2019-07-12 03:36:09

use the one pinned to the strat. that one is the most up to date

Another (3 hour) attack at this strategy has resulted in another revised script.
There were a few issues with the last one; two typos but also a couple of technical hitches.
However, I reckon that for this one I must be owed ~100 pet bandages, 4 pints of Stella Artois, and ~3 hours of my life...:

I had a play with the script to iron out a couple of issues raised. I only used the P/S breed but please let me know if this covers the others as well:

ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#2).active & self.speed.slow & enemy.round!=2 ]
ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#3).active & !enemy.ability(Puppies of the Flame:1355).usable ]
standby [ self(#1).active & enemy(#3).active ]
change(#2) [ self(#1).active & enemy.ability(Puppies of the Flame:1354).duration=6 ]
change(#2) [ self(#1).dead & !self(#2).played ]
change(#3) [ self(#2).active ]
standby [ enemy(#2).active & enemy.round~3,4 ]
ability(Supercharge:208) [ self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
ability(Dive:564) [ enemy.ability(Inferno Herding:1687).usable ]
ability(Thunderbolt:779)
ability(#1)

Thanks for the script.
However, I found a small issue with it: the SoG didn't use Dive when Inferno Herding was up. This meant the carry pet got switched in by Lil Sizzle, and the SoG had to be switched back. This meant more damage to the SoG, and 2 extra rounds (18 altogether), which defeats the main feature of this strat - that it's very fast
The original script finishes in 15 rounds when the RNG works out, or else 16 (on rare occasions it will run to 17 rounds).

probably intentional when the level pet wasn't in the fight yet

Eekwibble

wrote on 2019-05-25 13:36:18

That's following exactly what Shenk says to do at the bottom of the strat.
The original idea was actually to have a lvl1 carry pet, not just to be fast. With the workaround, it has to take the extra rounds or a lvl1 carry pet will die. It only comes into effect when the IS doesn't take a lot of damage from Stumpers, which is rare.

Does the carry pet take any damage if you switch it in first? In my experience, even if the pet gets switched in by Inferno Herding, you just switch back immediately, and the carry pet takes no damage. Same applies when you switch in after the IS dies; you just switch out the pet and it doesn't take any hits.

well, yeah... both scenarios are written in the guide

Note: a Dragonkin carry pet needs a minimum health of 199 (maximum critical damage) because Foof's AoE does extra damage to Dragonkin), which means it may have to be level 2 or 3.
All other pet species need health > 132, except Beasts (>87).

This should work better:

ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#2).active & self.speed.slow & enemy.round!=2 ]
ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#3).active & !enemy.aura(Puppies of the Flame:1355).exists ]
standby [ self(#1).active & enemy(#3).active ]
change(#2) [ self(#1).dead & enemy.aura(Puppies of the Flame:1355).exists ]
change(#3) [ enemy(#3).active ]
standby [ enemy(#2).active & enemy.round~3,4 ]
ability(Supercharge:208) [ self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
ability(Dive:564)
ability(Thunderbolt:779)
ability(#1)

Having the issue of the levelling pet sometimes not being switched in at all if iron starlette [p/s} survives till the third round of puppies of the flame. It will bring in spawn and auto dive instead of allowing the tag in from swap ability.
I used this for about 4 hours and this happened quite often and I would need to manually interfere to allow a swap.

wrote on 2019-05-25 01:25:10

I'm having the same issue. By the time of writing this I made 32 fights, got 1 lose and 8 times the level pet wasn't swapped in, so it really does happen quite often :/

Mesqalito wrote on 2019-05-24 18:19:33

More deviation-proof variation. It may only fail if Superbark gets crit. Anything else should be covered.
It uses Young Sand Sifter as 3rd pet, but it doesn't really matter - just change Carpnado to Thunderbolt.

if [enemy(#1).active]
use(Wind-Up:459) [ !self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
use(Supercharge:208)
endif

if [enemy(#2).active]
use(Powerball:566) [ self.speed.slow ]
use(Wind-Up:459) [ !self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
use(Supercharge:208) [ enemy.aura(Cute Face:904).duration=1]
standby [ enemy.aura(Cute Face:904).exists ]
endif

if [enemy(#3).active]
standby [ enemy.aura(Puppies of the Flame:1355).exists &!self(#2).active ]
use(Powerball:566)
change(#2) [self(#1).active & self(#1).dead ]
change(#3)
use(Dive:564) [ enemy.ability(Inferno Herding:1687).usable ]
use(Carpnado:1287)
use(#1)
endif

use(Wind-Up:459)

Hy all. I repeated this fight around 10 times and every time the lvl 1 pet dies from the AOE dmg received. You need a minim lvl 2-3 pet to survive. Any lvl 1 pet doesnt survive this fight. Any ideea?

Info: "Allows to use any pet for leveling. P/S breed on the Iron Starlette is the only one that will make this possible. If you run one of the other breeds expect the level pet to take 176 damage (266 as a dragon). " Did you use a P/S Iron Starlette?

Yea my bad, apologies, i didnt moticed the breed of Starlette, i had a H/P before. I bought another Starlette (P/S) from AH. Anyway this tamer has a annoying fight, its quite long (compared for example with Sir Galveston its around 20-30 sec longer) and you need a lot of focus and concentration(if you by mistake forget to pass 2 times, the fight is lost). I wait for tomorow, maby another tamer comes.

(OP) Shenk

wrote on 2019-05-24 16:07:28

forgetting to pass should barely be a problem. the strat used to actually do stuff instead during that rounds, but it's unnecessary

This eliminates the possibility of a 2nd unforced level pet swap:

ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#2).active & self.speed.slow & enemy.round!=2 ]
ability(Powerball:566) [ enemy(#3).active & !enemy.aura(Puppies of the Flame:1355).exists ]
standby [ self(#1).active & enemy(#3).active ]
change(#2) [ self(#1).dead & enemy.aura(Puppies of the Flame:1355).exists & self(Spawn of G'nathus:1201).hp>1169]
change(#3) [ enemy(#3).active ]
standby [ enemy(#2).active & enemy.round~3,4 ]
ability(Supercharge:208) [ self.aura(Wind-Up:458).exists ]
ability(Dive:564)
ability(Thunderbolt:779)
ability(#1)

Xar wrote on 2019-05-06 10:49:37

Ugh it keeps forcing in my level pet even though I'm actually using level pets whose health is HIGHER than Spawn's. I could understand if it were swapping me into a level 1 but it's not.

Astyrel

wrote on 2019-05-06 19:43:43

Maybe the Inferno Herding description is misleading. It could mean that it switches to your lowest health backline pet.

Eekwibble

wrote on 2019-05-06 22:17:43

That IS the description, and that IS what IH does. Xar said they use HIGHER hp pets than SoG, so in theory, it should swap in SoG.
However, that script is all over the place. The next time she's up, I'll rewrite it.

(OP) Shenk

wrote on 2019-05-07 05:47:35

unfortunately currently i can't get into the game so even if amalia was up i couldn't fix it :/

Astyrel

wrote on 2019-05-07 12:24:32

I main not have been clear: Xar said that the game switched to the level pet even though level pet has more HPs than SoG. However if SoG is the active pet, I assume that IH will switch to the lowest health inactive pet, which would be the level pet.

(OP) Shenk

wrote on 2019-05-12 11:37:34

i've edited the script, now it doesn't misbehave anymore (at least for me ^^)
if it does something strange again pls tell me what exactly happened, so it's easier to understand :p

Astyrel

wrote on 2019-05-12 12:38:07

It certainly seems better now! One minor quibble: when IS dies, the script still occasionally brings in Spawn of Gnathus instead of the carry pet. SoG then casts Thunderbolt, letting Sizzle switch in the carry pet with Inferno Herding.

This seems to be a bit slower (takes 17 rounds instead of 16), and results in more damage to SoG, than switching to the carry bet on IS death.

I ran into some problems with this script. In addition to the modification pointed out by meoowth above (which prevents G'nathus switching back in after Inferno Herding), the script switched in G'nathus instead of the carry pet 3 times out of 9 tries.
The first time this happened all my pets died.

The 2nd time the went as follows:
G'nathus switched in after IS died on Round 10.
On Round 11 G'nathus wasted a Thunderbolt cooldown by casting it with Puppies of the Flame was still active.
Round 12, the script switched in the carry pet, which took 172 damage (in addition to the 88 from Foof earlier, which would have killed up to a level 3 pet).
Round 13, G'nathus didn't use Dive as expected, and so was switched by Inferno Herding.

The 3rd time G'nathus switched in instead of the carry pet on round 12, and again didn't use Dive as expected. Did still win that fight, however.

I'm not experienced enough with scripts to figure out the bug, but perhaps someone else will?

The script works in 97% percent of the battles. Sometimes it doesn't work when self(#1) dies and it doesn't switch to self(#3). I suggest you add this line to the end of the code and it will work 100% of the times:

change(#3)
