Note: You have selected a substitute pet.
The strategy might fail if you use it with this pet instead of the one the strategy creator intended.

The substitute finder looks for these criteria in relation to the original pet:
  • Same family
  • Has the required skills
  • Has the required stats (if specified)
  • Ignores specific breed requirements for the main pet, as breeds can be very different for substitutes

Updated May 11 2020: removed the leveling pet and adjusted the script to no longer swap to the second pet.

Low XP
At least one of the pets for this strategy require the use of a specific breed.
Not every strategy can be bullet proof. This is one of them. You might have to restart it, since there are some random elements that increase the risk of your pets failing. Don't blame them, please!
This strategy is using pets obtainable from the Wow Trading Card Game (TCG) or the auction house for potentially high sums of gold.
This strategy is using pets obtainable only from the WoW In-Game Shop for Battle.net Balance or real money.
You can use this strategy to carry a low level pet to give it experience.
Some instructions are more difficult to follow than others. That's exactly what you might find in this strategy!
Script
The strategy offers a Script that can be used with the Pet Battle Script addon. You can copy the script by clicking on the button to the left of the pets.
At least one pet in the strategy cannot be obtained anymore. If you have it, congrats!
A Strategy Curator found this strategy to be especially helpful and higlighted it with this tag to give it more exposure.

Removed level pet from the body of the strategy to reflect the script and the second pet no longer being a level pet. I also added a speed restriction for the Sprite Darter to display the correct breeds for the alternative Nether Faerie Dragon, since you'll want it to be faster than Whiplash to finish it off in round 13 and not have any weird turns with a speed tie.

wrote on 2020-01-24 19:42:38

Don't use a P/S Iron Starlette, I have 3 different breeds and used this one for the hell of it and it gets killed before it can take out Turbo

Snotspit wrote on 2020-10-29 22:14:13

I think you just had some bad rng i just did it with a P/S iron Starlette and it died at whiplash as intended

Works in Pre-Patch 9.0. You can still swap in a lvl pet if you want but it's low XP.

169 PET XP!

Rys wrote on 2019-10-11 10:23:23

For those of us who prefer chipping away at assorted 22+ pet's exp doing WQ that would be chosen to do anyway. (After Family Battler is done.) This is what worked as a modified script using Life Exchange. (Need to change ability line-up, as listed it's Evanescence). It can still get hairy with RNG, but LE makes it less chancy.
My leveling preferences for WQ's are set to only allow pets that are over 22, such as most wild pets, so you are not wasting time with low levels that get better exp easier elsewhere.
I'm horrible with scripts, and it took longer to find a line that works then I'd care to admit.

Edited for an RNG event where SDH was facing Turbo plus also had less than 800 hp. I think it could have squeaked by had the LE been fired on the very first turn with Whiplash. Maybe, maybe not, but added the enemy part in case. (edited)

Very sad about the xp nerf for low level pets during BFA pet battles. Not sure what Blizz's reasons are for this. Would be happy if someone could explain. I'm glad all else seems unchanged though it would be nice if the low level pet xp I used to get from Rydyr battle would be re instated (please take note Mr Blizz)

(OP) Phacoid

wrote on 2018-12-16 12:16:11

I have edited my strategies to inform about the xp nerf. One of my strategies had to be removed because Blizzard has in fact changed certain abilities of the BFA tamers. It is what it is. I can only suggest making sure you do do the WoD trainers weekly to level up (or at least when the pet battle event is up).

jdf#1850

wrote on 2018-12-16 16:38:38

the reason is because you can fight these pet masters repeatedly for the achievement now, they don't want people just exploiting that to level pets. They could however have easily come up with a better solution then a nerf.

Bill wrote on 2018-12-26 09:10:54

Since the battles are repeatable now they didn't want them to be grindable. It was nice for the 2 days of doing the family battle achievement but now I'm missing the xp again

Liirelle wrote on 2018-12-16 16:38:35

So I basically did this with Onyxian Whelpling and Parasitic boarfly - no need for a 3rd

Geki wrote on 2018-11-30 02:49:24

If your Iron Starlette is P/P you can skip the Supercharge and finish off Eighty-Eight with a plain old Wind-Up Release. This freed me up to land some blows on Whiplash.

I've never had this team fail to do this. It's worked 100 pct of the time. I'm using an H/P Iron Starlette, so perhaps the breed matters?

MolsonofAle wrote on 2018-11-03 23:37:46

Fortunately I had a level 21 level pet or this would have been a disaster. Perhaps a life exchange with the sprite darter would help, or the other pets mentioned in the comments.

MissPet#1154

wrote on 2018-11-03 15:04:03

I replaced the sprite darter hatchling with a Nexus Whelpling, with x-2-2. Arcane Storm, then Mana Surge, and you're done -- last pet died much faster, and with less micromanaging.

Mini wrote on 2018-10-02 04:05:46

Use Evanescence before switching the weather. The enemy is in its Cocoon and you are first. So you avoid 2 attacks and can savely switch weather one later.

Mini wrote on 2018-10-06 06:39:36

That would be Evanescence on Turn 11, makes it much smoother.

Amber1019

wrote on 2018-10-06 13:36:07

Agreed. I like it more that way. Could someone post a script for it? (the full fight, please)
Turn 10: Bring in Sprite Darter Hatchling
Turn 11: Evanescence
Turn 12: Moonfire
Turn 13. Arcane Blast to finish Whiplash off. Use Moonfire if Whiplash casts Sandstorm.

forsettii

wrote on 2018-10-01 20:47:42

Ok I would use Sprite Darter at 2 - 2 - 1
If you get into Trouble at the end use Life Swap.

Corgi

wrote on 2018-09-17 00:19:41

I've been making a slight change that seems to work fine - when I swap in my trainee, I break Whiplash's cocoon with an attack, then swap to the Sprite Darter. This way Moonfire actually gets to do some damage, and there's a buffer against crits.

Battlevixen#1262

wrote on 2018-09-07 10:47:38

Great Strat. I changed it up a bit at the end. If Whiplash has less than 200 health on Turn 12, I passed twice so that my Sprite Darter Hatchling dies, and I finished Whiplash off with my level 1 pet for full xp. I got 3118 xp doing this.

Brookerbean

wrote on 2018-09-03 12:31:11

Excellent, works exactly as stated.

anon wrote on 2018-08-26 08:40:03

This seems dependent on pets having certain speed values... I recommend choosing Life Exchange for your Sprite Darter Hatchling and using it the turn after your first Moonfire. Then remember to use Moonfire after breaking Whiplash's second cocoon.

6aGs: Your pet swapping scripting is heading in a direction I took.

Here's a more efficient way:
change(next) [ self(#1).dead & ! self(#3).played ]

It rolls right through to the next carrying pet swapping in and out the leveling pet along the way. Also, leave in the ability names as this is effective self documentation for yourself and others.

Worked really well on the first try! I have to note though that on Turn 8, when the Starlette dies it does resurrect itself. I managed to get in Wind-Up, Wind-Up to do a little extra damage before it fully died. Might be possible to do a full W-SC-W.

On "Round 14" when I knew he would put up Sandstorm first, I hit him with Moonfire which instantly switched the weather back and gave the Dragon perk for a Round 15 Arcane Blast for like 800

Alternatively you could use Sprite Darter's Evanescence on it's third turn (I think that's the one that doesn't go through).

Xaxz wrote on 2018-08-20 00:41:03

Neither time I tried was Iron Starlette able to get off a second Powerball. Also I tried using a second Moonfire and lost. If you only use the first Moonfire and then just constantly use Arcane Blast you can win.
